Hail friend and well met.

Obviously, at your 1st event, you will not have period type clothing, so medieval attire is admired but not required. We'd appreciate it if you could dress medieval and so keep with the theme, you could modify your own clothes a bit, or hire a costume or make something new. check out our costuming page.
This is so that the feel of the medieval period is maintained, and serves to help you feel more comfortable as well, but you can help by wearing dark coloured trousers and plain shoes (not takkies), for gents. Ladies are easier as dresses cover most other clothes. However, high heels are a bad idea, as we do our combat on grass. You will probably sink!! They are also completely non-period.

Also, to maintain the feel, we ask that you drink from your goblet or mug as cans and bottles really look wrong. Our sites are normally “discretely wet”, so beer and wine only no spirits. If you would like to fight (“boffing “for 1st timers), please don’t drink. This is for safety reasons. Please conceal your watch and celphone, as these spoil photos’, and will get you burned at the stake for witchcraft. (joke, Honest!)

We understand that the 1st event can be a little daunting, but we would be only too happy to talk, explain and help you enjoy yourself. We are not really as scary as we sometimes appear. Any questions you have will be answered. Just ask. However, during combat, most fighters will be distracted, so they are robably not the best people to ask, but we’re all pretty friendly really.

At the Feast: Sorry, we don’t have servants so everyone mucks in to serve and clean up. Many hands make for light work, so please help with the washing up and tidying. If you have to leave early, please wash and dry any utensils you have used and leave your area clean. Thanks.

By the way, everyone is supposed to be nobility, so when you are addressed as Milord or Milady, it is a mark of respect. Please reply in the same way. Speaking “Forsoothly” just adds to the ambiance and and can also be great fun.

We really hope you enjoy this experience and hope you’ll come again and perhaps take part more fully in the Shire’s other interests away from the Events as well.
